SID 482 Visa: A Smarter Path for Skilled Workers & Employers

Australia’s Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482) has been redesigned to better respond to the country’s growing workforce needs. Replacing the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, this upgraded version offers greater flexibility, faster processing, and a streamlined route to permanent residency.

Whether you’re a qualified worker or an employer struggling with skills shortages — this visa brings long-term solutions

What’s New in the SID 482 Visa?

🔹Three tailored visa streams based on skills, salary, and sector

🔹A simplified Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) with 456 eligible jobs

🔹 Work experience requirement reduced to just one year

🔹Updated salary thresholds, now indexed annually

🔹Faster application processing for high-earning professionals

🔹Improved mobility, allowing workers to change employers with ease

Three Flexible Streams

🔹 Specialist Skills Pathway
For highly skilled professionals earning at least $135,000 AUD annually.
This stream excludes trade and machinery roles and offers fast-tracked processing with a 4-year visa and a direct pathway to PR.

🔹 Core Skills Pathway
Open to a wide range of occupations including nurses, tradespeople, chefs, and machinery operators.
Requires a minimum salary of $73,150 AUD, with occupations listed on the CSOL.
Median processing time is around 21 days, with PR eligibility included.

🔹 Labour Agreement Stream
Designed for employers with a formal labour agreement with the Australian Government.
Allows access to roles not on standard occupation lists and may include concessions on English, skills, and age, depending on the agreement terms.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa – Subclass 482, applicants must:

📌 Have at least 1 year of relevant full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience within the last 5 years

📌 Meet the English language requirement
(IELTS overall 5.0 – minimum 5 in each band, or equivalent test)

📌 Complete any skills assessments required (based on occupation and nationality)

📌 Hold a substantive visa or a valid Bridging Visa A, B or C if applying inside Australia

📌 Pass mandatory health and character checks

📌 Satisfy the specific criteria of your chosen visa stream

How the Process Works

Instead of a step-by-step checklist, think of this visa as a 3-part partnership:

1. Employer Becomes a Sponsor

The business applies to become an approved Standard Business Sponsor (SBS) and must comply with workplace laws.

2. Employer Nominates the Position

The job must meet salary and market rate standards, with Labour Market Testing (LMT) often required to prove genuine need.

3.Applicant Submits the Visa Application

You’ll need to show your experience, qualifications, and English proficiency and pass character/medical checks.
